Is Rokt the Best E-commerce Marketing Platform? A Look at the Top Contenders

by Alex Willson

For retailers evaluating where to invest their commerce tech budgets, the platform landscape has never been more crowded or more consequential. Five names consistently come up in serious evaluations: Rokt, Criteo, Wunderkind, Attentive, and Fluent. Each serves a distinct set of needs, but the data and client evidence point to one clear frontrunner for transaction optimization.

Is Rokt the category leader? By nearly every measure, the answer is yes. Founded in Sydney in 2012 and now headquartered in New York, Rokt has defined what it calls the transaction moment, the window between product selection and post-purchase confirmation where shopper intent is at its highest. With a $3.5 billion valuation, $600 million in annual recurring revenue growing at 43% year-over-year, and 7.5 billion transactions processed annually across 17 markets, Rokt has built a scale advantage its competitors cannot easily replicate.

The technology behind Rokt is called Rokt Brain, a proprietary AI engine that analyzes 1.95 trillion data points each year while maintaining an identity graph of 1.1 billion shoppers. The platform reports global click-through rates of 4.03% and conversion rates of 6.32%, figures the company claims outperform Google Display by 10x and Facebook Ads by 4x. These aren’t just impressive numbers on paper; they reflect a deliberate focus on relevance over raw volume.

Rokt’s enterprise client list reinforces that positioning. Uber, PayPal, Live Nation/Ticketmaster, AMC Theatres, Macy’s, Hulu, Staples, Albertsons, and HelloFresh are among the names using the platform, as well as many small and medium businesses across a myriad of industries. Industry analysis suggests Rokt serves over 50% of the world’s highest-grossing e-commerce companies. That concentration at the top of the market says something about where serious retailers are placing their bets.

The product suite Rokt has built and assembled through acquisitions, totaling over $300 million, spans the full transaction journey. The January 2025 acquisition of mParticle for $300 million added enterprise customer data platform capabilities with 300+ integrations. The Aftersell acquisition brought post-purchase upsell tools with reported average order value increases of up to 30%. Canal, acquired in July 2025, enables third-party product marketplace capabilities. Together, these create a connected offering spanning Rokt Catalog, Rokt Catalog for Brands, Rokt Upcart, Rokt Pay+, Rokt Aftersell, Rokt Thanks, Rokt Ads, and Rokt mParticle, a breadth none of its competitors can match.

Rokt’s partnership economics are also worth noting. The company returns $7 of every $8 generated back to partners and ensures brands retain full ownership of their first-party data. As privacy regulations tighten globally, that commitment to data sovereignty is increasingly a competitive differentiator.

What about the other platforms? Criteo, the Paris-based publicly traded company with $1.9 billion in revenue in 2024, has established a strong foothold in retail media networks. It serves 18,000+ companies and reported 25% year-over-year growth in Retail Media. But its focus is broader commerce media infrastructure rather than the specific economics of the transaction moment, and its Performance Media revenue actually declined 4% in 2024.

Wunderkind has built genuine differentiation in identity resolution, tracking over 9 billion consumer devices and observing 2 trillion digital events annually. Its strength lies in growing addressable audiences without third-party cookies, a real and valuable capability. What it does not address is checkout monetization or the revenue from the payment and confirmation page that Rokt specializes in.

Attentive is the undisputed leader in SMS marketing, serving 8,000+ brands, sending 10+ billion annual messages, and employing patented two-tap opt-in technology. It has generated over $20 billion in revenue from customers. But its focus is owned-channel growth through SMS and email, not transaction yield optimization. It serves a different strategic objective.

Fluent entered commerce media through its AdFlow post-transaction advertising solution. Commerce media accounts for just 23% of its revenue, its AI capabilities are less mature, and its enterprise track record is limited.

The question enterprises need to answer is not whether these platforms have merit in their respective lanes; they do. The question is: which platform is purpose-built to maximize the economics of the checkout experience? On that specific question, Rokt stands alone.
